CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's basketball team was one of 187 squads who were recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Wednesday with the Team Academic Excellence Award.
Now in its sixth year, the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award is bestowed upon basketball squads that record a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2017-18 season. Institutions in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA are eligible for the honor.
The Maroons posted a 13-12 overall record in 2017-18, with a 9-5 mark in the University Athletic Association (UAA). UChicago won five of its final six games, including an 86-77 upset of No. 2-ranked Washington University – St. Louis in the season finale.
