CHICAGO – Noah Karras' hot-hand and Jordan Baum's steady distribution helped fuel the University of Chicago men's basketball team to a 87-68 win over visiting North Park University in a game that was never close Tuesday night.

Karras netted a season-high 27 points, draining 10-of-16 from the field and 6-of-10 from downtown, as the senior had 19 – making 7-of-9 – in the first half alone. Baum, on the other hand, came just three points away from a triple-double, netting seven points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds.

It was the second-straight game Baum nearly recorded the rare statistic, as he was just one rebound and one assist shy of the mark in last Sunday's win over Ohio Wesleyan.

Junior Cole Schmitz added 12 points and seven boards and Justin Jackson and Dominic Laravie each chipped in nine points for the Maroons (3-1).

Ironically enough, it was North Park (0-4) who started the game with a spark, as the Vikings took a 6-1 lead in the opening half (16:31).

Karras answered the call quickly for the Maroons. The wing drained three-straight 3s over the course of the next minute and then added a jumper that gave the Maroons a 12-8 lead they would never relinquish. By halftime, UChicago led 41-29, though the Maroons led by as many as 17, 39-22, with 2:45 remaining in the first period.

Karras promptly opened the second half with a deep 3 to push UChicago's lead back to 15, 44-29. Two Schmitz buckets and back-to-back makes by Jackson – including a 3 – gave the hosts a 20-point lead, 53-33, with 15:31 left.

Behind the play of Kindrel Morris – who finished with 25 points – North Park made one final charge and cut the lead to 15, but back-to-back layups by Laravie helped quell any comeback late.

UChicago finished 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the field and 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from 3 compared to 38.8 percent (24-of-62) for the Vikings, who made 4-of-18 (22.2 percent) from behind the arc.

The Maroons won the rebounding battle, 41-33, and totaled 24 assists and eight steals, forcing North Park into 13 turnovers.
