CHICAGO – First-year University of Chicago wrestler Will Hare was named to the 2017-18 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III All-Academic team in recognition of his athletic and academic performance this past season.
Hare posted a 16-15 record wrestling at 285 pounds, pinning five opponents. The rookie was a frequent starter for the Maroons as they posted a 10-3 dual record and captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) team title for the first time since 2011.
Hare capped his first collegiate season with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional. He also enjoyed strong showings at the Trine University Invite (fourth) and Elmhurst College Invite (fifth).
To be nominated for the honor, wrestlers must maintain a GPA of at least 3.2 and meet one of the following three competitive criteria:
- Qualified for nationals with a winning percentage of at least .500;
- Finished in the top six at regional tournament and had a win percentage of at least .500 and competed in half of the team's scheduled matches;
- Had a win percentage of at least .670 and competed in half of the team's scheduled matches.
