Sofia Natividad

Sofia Natividad

Women's Cross Country / Sophomore / Aptos, Calif.

Major: Biological Chemistry

Sofia Natividad is a sophomore runner on the Maroon women's cross country team. At last weekend's University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, Natividad was UChicago's No. 6 runnre and placed 21st overall in a time of 22:46.42.

Head Coach Chris Hall: "Sofia had her best meet ever as a member of our women’s cross country team. A year ago, Sofia was injured and unable to compete at this time of the year. She also had some injuries that sidelined her at the end of track season and disrupted a lot of her summer training. Sofia worked extremely hard while hurt via cross training, and while she was a bit behind at the beginning of the season, she showed immediately that she is a great competitor - competing hard when she was not at her best. This weekend, Sofia ran with two other members of our team right through the finish line as they placed 19-20-21. I feel the support she was offering to the others allowed us to have a really strong finish at the all-important No. 5 position, and in the process ran a lifetime best on a really challenging course."

Teammate Zoe Smith: "Sofia has been a great addition to the team. She had to deal with an injury last cross country season, so it is really great to see her come back and make such an impact. She is a great workout partner and friend who always brings a smile to early morning practices."

Other WAA Nominees

Lisa Dong (Women's Swimming)

  • Head Coach Jason Weber: "Lisa performed exceptionally well, posting some of the top times in the country in the 100/200 back after having a scary injury earlier in the week. To be able to overcome that and to perform the way she did was inspiring and helped us to a dominating win over Carthage."
