CHICAGO – The University of Chicago collected five Athletes of the Week on Monday from the University Athletic Association (UAA).
Miranda Burt received the weekly recognition in women's basketball. The senior guard poured in 22 points on 72.7 percent shooting from the field in a 78-64 victory in Saturday's UAA opener at Washington University – St. Louis. She made 3 of 4 from deep to improve her season three-point percentage to .458 (33-72). Burt currently leads the No. 16-ranked Maroons in scoring at 14.8 points per game.
UChicago swept all four UAA indoor track & field honors following standout results at the season-opening Phoenix Invitational on Saturday.
In men's field events, senior Alexander Scott was picked after his record performance in the shot put. Scott tossed the No. 1 shot put distance in all of NCAA Division III with a mark of 17.53 meters. That broke his previous school record by nearly a whole meter. He also won the weight throw with a heave of 16.05 meters, which ranks 21st in the country.
The women's field events winner was Isabel Garon. The senior pole vaulter submitted the seventh-best height in the nation at 3.55 meters.
Juniors Ryan Cutter and Sophie Elgamal were the men's and women's track awardees, respectively, with their victories in the one mile. Cutter crossed the finish line with the No. 6 time in the nation at 4:22.19. Elgamal finished in 5:11.57, which also ranks sixth in NCAA Division III.
