ATLANTA – A big second-half push spurred the University of Chicago men's basketball team to an 84-76 upset victory over No. 6-ranked Emory University on Friday.

The Maroons (8-11, 3-5 UAA) snapped its three-game skid and defeated Emory for the third time in the past four meetings. The Eagles dropped to 16-3 overall and 6-2 in the University Athletic Association.

The back-and-forth affair featured nine ties and 12 lead changes over the course of the contest. Outside of an early 9-4 UChicago lead, the two teams stayed within four points of each other the rest of the half. After the Eagles took a brief 28-26 lead, Maroon forwards Bryce Hopkins and Brennan McDaniel combined to score their team's next 10 points and give the visitors a narrow 36-35 halftime advantage.

Emory led 64-59 midway through the second half before UChicago went on a huge 18-1 run. After shooting only 1-for-9 on three-pointers in the first half, the Maroons caught fire from deep in the second half by converting 7-for-15. Senior guard Jordan Baum capped the rally with a trey to make the score 77-65.

Things got interesting in the waning minutes. The Eagles chopped the deficit all the way down to 80-76. But UChicago made free throws in the final minute to provide some cushion as Emory missed its final four shots.
