UChicago Swimming & Diving Compiles 32 Wins at DePauw and Illinois-Chicago

GREENCASTLE, Ind. / CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams sent split squads to meets at DePauw University and University of Illinois-Chicago on Saturday. All told, they collected 32 event victories between the two locations.

The local meet at UIC saw the Maroon women beat the host Flames 167-130 – their second win against a NCAA Division I opponent in a week and their first ever against Illinois-Chicago. The UChicago men lost to UIC 165-131 and beat Wabash College 204-93.

Out of the 10 women's wins at UIC, first-year Chanell Kann excelled with three individual victories. She swept the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.58), 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.49) and 100-yard IM (1:00.68). She was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:48.73). First-year Yunfan Dong captured the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.28) while tying junior teammate Gillian Gagnard in the 100-yard backstroke (58.43). First-year Filippa Kolokotsa swam the fastest 50-yard freestyle (24.97) while also serving as the anchor leg on the 200 medley relay.

Senior Byrne Litschgi was the top performer for the men, winning the 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.68 while also swimming legs of the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:06.67) and 200-yard medley relay (1:32.86). First-year Arthur Kiselnikov and junior Jonathan Mendley were also part of the winning relays. UChicago finished first in four races.

In a dual at DePauw, UChicago's men triumphed 156-101 while the women emerged victorious at 127-118.

The Maroon women brought only 10 swimmers but still managed to rack up eight wins. Senior Yifan Mao swept the 50-yard freestyle (25.93) and 100-yard freestyle (57.75) while junior Michelle Cho snagged the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.95) and 200-yard IM (2:15.36).

UChicago's men grabbed 10 events overall. Junior Aaron Teo was first in both breaststroke distances (1:00.01 and 2:11.76). First-year Winston Chen triumphed in four races – the 50-yard freestyle (21.90), the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.40), the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.28) and alongside Teo in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.23).
